If a court decides that simply awarding damages is not enough adequate compensation. It may instead of awarding damages, order the party who breached the contract to complete its responsibilities. Despite breaching the contract they still have to complete what they initially set out to do.

E.g. If a person employed some builders to build them a house and the builders left three quarters of the way through the job and the employee needed to move into the house . The court could rule that the builders need to complete the terms of their contract.
