The effects day care may have on children's social and cognitive development has been discussed widely. Many different people have different opinions on the matter. For Example Bowlby felt that if a mother goes out to work and therefore the child goes to day care, then the child suffers form maternal deprivation. If this happens before the child is one then he said that attachment might not develop at all, but if it happens after an attachment has already been formed, then the child will be distressed and suffer from separation anxiety. Belsky and Rovine 1988 agreed with Bolwby....

In conclusion I agree with the conclusions Mooney & Munton 1997 made. They stated that there is no evidence that working mothers stunt their children's emotional or social development. Even poor quality child care may not make a difference, whilst good quality may provide positive benefits.
