Education vs SportsSome say that sports in America are favored more by people who live elsewhere. I wonder why. Studies have shown that some people like the fact that most sports have some type of physical contact. Why is that most Americans rather watch sports on television than read a book, maybe because some find it more interesting? I find that reading is just as interesting as watching sports or doing anything else. In my opinion education is more important than sports. When I was a child I was enrolled in Head Start. Head Start is a program for kids that are too young to start school yet. Being in Head Start puts you ahead of your class. The program was designed to better prepare you for your future academic success. Once it was time for you to advance to preschool you were given a test to see if you had learned a sufficient amount of information to past preschool to go right into first grade. If you did not pass the test you still went to preschool with some sense of what was ahead. Either way you were still progressing in Head Start. Although Head Start is not required for kids parents enrolled their kids in the program to better prepare them for their upcoming school years. I havenÔÇÖt found any sports program that parents enrolled their kids in before they put them in something educational. My parents instilled in me that education is the key to success. This is where my view on sports vs. education originates from. I believe that education is the key and is more important than any sport. Growing up most, if not all parents told their kids to go to school and get good grades so that you can get a good job and raise your own family one day. Being told that, that was most kids goal. In school you learned your required task to go to the next grade. The feeling of accelerating to the next grade is awesome! Once you have achieved this feeling you will want to pass all your courses not only because your parents told you but to feel accomplished. I loved that feeling! I strived for excellence in all my class. You can be a sports fan and still value education. The problem comes in when you values sports more the education. In middle school sports were introduced into the school atmosphere. I believed that this was a good thing at one point of time. Before middle school, sports were played just for fun around the school. They were only taken seriously if you were on a recreational team which was done outside of school. This still put education before sports or any other extracurricular activities. I wonder what made thing change. It seems as if education was the main topic for kids. It was extremely important to go to school solely for an education to better yourself. Somewhere in time the reason for going to school changed. I have come to the assumption that most kids in middle school went to school just for the social aspect which somewhat included sports. This is the time where I feel like sports got the upper hand on education. I liked the fact that sports where open to anyone before they got too competitive. I believe that once school officials started to notice what sports could do for a school they geared their attention away for education and on to sport. Sports bring in more revenue into a school than good grades. This is the one of the only thing that I feel could possible take attention away from what school is all about. Money is a key factor in life generally.Money is another major reason why some might switch their focus from education to sports. Athletes are in the lime light so once you reach a certain age and see all the perks of being famous some might like and want that life style. I believe that sometimes it appears easier to pursue the things you love and want in life instead of the things you need. It seems that some find it harder to stay in school because of one main factor: money. After youÔÇÖre done with high school you have to pay for the rest of your education. To some this is burden. I feel that money is always needed and wanted in life. At one point in time I wanted to choose an easier path or what I thought was easier and it wasnÔÇÖt education. Most college students leave school with debt that they have to pay back. College is supposed to better you but sometimes seems as if itÔÇÖs brining you down due to all the constant struggles. Failing grades, worrying about financial aid, unhelpful tutoring and making the right decision are sometimes struggles that bring you down while in college. Through it all you must keep your eye on the prize which is graduating.Never the less when it comes to education vs. sports, education will and should always out weight sports. Looking at the bigger picture education will and can take you a longer way than sports. If youÔÇÖre an athlete that didnÔÇÖt finish school and you get hurt, what do you have to fall back on? Nothing, you can only get a mediocre job in the real world. ItÔÇÖs better to prepare for the worst even if nothing ever happens. ThatÔÇÖs why I feel that education is the key!
