There will always be controversy and the most substantial result of illegalization is that many children's lives would be saved. The unfortunate side effects of this would be more people would seek out illegal practitioners and some deaths and illnesses will happen. The politicians would be heatedly seeking to recruit those to their propaganda, poverty among women may increase, but the overall stance on the sanctity of a human life trumps all.
