Planning Before actually planning the experiment, I have done some research to find out about osmosis, and matters related to it, so that I can make predictions. And figure out a way to make this investigation fair and safe. Planning ahead would help me find out how to do what, when, which should lead me to good results I shall be experimenting with a baking potato, and will be using a range of different concentrations of glucose, and distilled water. By measuring the change in mass of the potatoes. I should also be able to find...
of free water molecules. This means that water particles will flow into the potato chip through the semi permeable membrane, which will increase the weight.

of free water molecules. This means that water particles will flow into the potato chip through the semi permeable membrane, which will increase the weight.
The speed that water flows into the potato cylinder will be determined by the concentration gradient between the potato cylinder and the water. If there is a high concentration of free water molecules in water and a low concentration of free molecules in the potato cylinder, then water will flow more quickly into the potato. From my preliminary work I guess that the concentration of sugar inside the potato is close to 1.5M.
I will measure the volume of gas produced as the catalase in the potato tissue reacts with the hydrogen peroxide to create water and oxygen. I will change the temperature at which the reaction takes place, but to make the test a fair one I will keep the pH level...

Scientific Back round: Osmosis is defined as the net movement of water or any other solution's molecules from a region in which they are highly concentrated to a region in which they are less concentrated. This movement must take place across a partially permeable membrane such as...

Prediction Osmosis is defined as ?â??the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration In a high concentration of water the amount of solute e.g. sugar is low. This could be called...
