Prediction Osmosis is defined as is the movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane from a region of high water concentration to a region of low water concentration. In a high concentration of water the amount of solute e.g. sugar is low. This could be called a weak or dilute solution. In a low concentration of water the amount of solute e.g. sucrose is high. This could be called a strong or concentrated solution. When two such solutions are divided by a semi-permeable membrane the water will move from the area of high concentration to the...
be prevented by amalgamating sets of results, for example of a whole class, where each experimenter used a different potato. I think that three sets of results was a good number. However, I think that in order to improve my results, the last concentration 1 moler needs to be retaken as it is an anomalous result.

Further work could be carried out to include concentrations that increased in 0.1 M rather than 0.2M. This would increase the accuracy and improve the graph. Other investigations could include using different varieties of potato or different plant tissues e.g. carrot.

Investigation For this experiment we plan to investigate the effect of varying concentration of a certain sugar solution on the amount of osmotic activity between the solution and a potato core of a given size. Osmosis is defined as the net movement of water or any other...

INTRODUCTION This piece of biology coursework is about how cells use osmosis, how, why and what affect it has on the cells in question. The example I am going to explore this in and to illustrate this is the experiment of potato chips of the same length in...

My Views on the Process of Evolution For many years people have asked the questions, "How did we get here?", and "How did mankind come to exist?" Astronomers, philosophers, and even mathematicians have come up with explanations. I believe in the theory of Theistic evolution. It is the belief...
