Tanks were used for the first time in the battle of the Somme. Meaning that they were unperfected and needed improvement. Not many tanks ever made it to the front line. A shell bomb hit the first tank that got sent out, the other two continued towards the enemy line slowly. The tanks had been successful in the regard that they had scared the Germans, and they had not been disabled immediately, however some were still disappointed, as the tanks were still in the early stages of there developments, and some generals expected too much of them.
